As many of you may know, every year, those of us at Caliber host our Rhythm Restoration Food Drive: an employee-driven effort to collect food and online donations for local food banks in all the communities we serve. Every year, we join together to go the extra mile to break our previous donations record, and this year is shaping up to be no exception. But we need your help! The donations close in one week, on May 19, and we could really use you in the passenger seat, helping us finish this race firing on all cylinders.
According to Feeding America, 1 in 5 children in the U.S. worry about when they’ll receive their next meal. 1 in 5. That’s something we must persist to pump the brakes on because hunger is especially devastating to children. Studies show that proper nutrition is imperative to improving a child’s physical, emotional and intellectual development. Also, children often have a hard time fighting common childhood illnesses because hunger lowers their immune systems. And the problem is particularly pernicious during the summer months when at-risk children don’t have access to subsidized school lunch programs. That’s why we’re here to educate you on the ways you can help.
Each summer, these children and their families turn to local food banks for assistance, and the food banks are turning to us for support. Simply put: they need a little extra help ensuring these kids get plenty of helpings this summer. Thankfully, there’s more than one way to help:
First, peruse your pantry to find all your unused containers of food. Make sure these are non-perishable food items (canned or plastic). Then, find a Caliber location near you and bring them on down! We’ll have one of our donation stations ready for you.
If for some reason you don’t have a pantry full of extra beans like every other person, you can easily donate online here. All donations will go to purchasing subsidized meals for the children.
Just two years ago, at our fourth annual Rhythm Restoration Food Drive, we were driven to meet our goal of 1.25 million meals for children in need. Not only did we shatter that goal by providing 2.3 million meals in food and cash, but we set the pace for years to come. And this year, we have our sights set on a goal of 5 million meals.
We are so thankful to have partners, associates, teammates and customers who help us better our communities, year after year. Join us as we continue to impact our communities and make a real difference. Because, together, we can reach our 2017 goal and restore the rhythm to millions of children’s lives.
