You may not have even realized, but this week is National Drive Electric Week: the most electrifying week of the year, when drivers all across the country show their support for all things “EV.” This nationwide initiative is one that supports the education of plug-in vehicle technology, and celebrates the many benefits of owning an electric vehicle. Electric vehicles are quickly becoming commonplace, and Caliber is committed to placing itself at the forefront of new, emerging technologies – especially ones that aim to save money, gas and the environment. So, join us as we get charged up for National Drive Electric Week.
Originally named National Plug In Day, the event had one simple goal: to hold simultaneous events all across the country on the same day and educate people on the benefits of electric vehicles. However, its promoters quickly learned they were not alone in this endeavor, so they expanded the festivities to an entire week, changed the name to National Drive Electric Week, and began laddering everything back to its new namesake: drive electric. And this year marks not only the sixth annual week of celebrations, but one that promises to include more events in even more cities than ever before.
Each event is led by local plug-in drivers and electric vehicle advocates, with a focus on education. But that’s not to say they don’t have fun, too. In fact, among the press conferences and informational downloads, the EV community has been known to throw parades, ride-and-dives, electric tailgating parties and award ceremonies for the latest and greatest in electronic advancements. Which raises the question: will the be receiving any accolades this year after the release of its new look and EPA range rating of more than 200 miles? We think it’s likely, seeing as the Nissan Leaf is yet again a Platinum Level Sponsor of the event.
If you or someone you know is looking to take charge and join the EV movement, you can find an event near you by searching here. Furthermore, if you’re in the market for your next electric vehicle – or even your first – we recommend checking out U.S. News & World Report’s “11 Best Electric Cars.” Or, you could always start with the industry’s fuel-efficient favorites, like the aforementioned Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S and BMW i3, to name a few.
Whatever your thoughts on electric vehicles, we hope we can all agree that green is good. After all, helping the environment is what inspired Caliber to first start using water-based, easy-to-dispose-of paints in all of our centers. Because it doesn’t matter if we’re fixing an electric vehicle, or a gas guzzler, we want to make sure we’re doing all we can to restore the rhythm of people’s lives, while maintaining a long-lasting environment for future drivers and future generations.
