This Valentine’s Day, love isn’t just in the air, it’s on the road. We’re giving you the tools to trade in your roses for a road trip and treat your loved one to a heartfelt weekend getaway. Whether you want to get away from the typical date-night venues, or just get away in general, there’s something out there for every slice of love life. It’s a little-known fact that Cupid’s arrow sometimes lands a few miles down the road, so we’ve put together a list of our favorite romantic destinations from across the country.

New Orleans, Louisiana

There’s no shortage of magic when it comes to the streets of New Orleans. Misty mornings on the Mississippi are the perfect way to greet the day, and that’s just the beginning. With an entire city’s worth of classic architecture, NOLA is practically built for romance. The historic French Quarter is a wrinkle in time where you and your loved one can tour the area by horse-drawn carriage and drink in the sights. Afterwards, you can drink in the night with craft cocktails and the jazzy notes of Bourbon St.

Portland, Oregon

If you’re looking to steer clear of the Valentine’s glitz and glam, Portland, Oregon is the place to be. With its generally laidback vibe, this city is full of microbreweries, quaint bookstores and a vibrant food scene that lands perfectly between excitement and relaxation. From costumed bike rides to riverboat cruises, this funky slice of the Pacific Northwest will bring a smile to any adventure lover.

Portland, Maine

That’s right – another Portland. Although they share the same name, this city couldn’t be further (and farther) from its Oregon counterpart, and is the perfect way to celebrate a more traditional Valentine’s Day. Portland, Maine’s typically frigid Februaries make for the perfect place to keep the fire burning with more restaurants per capita of any U.S. city. When it comes to romantic evenings, sharing ocean-fresh Maine lobster by candlelight to the backdrop of the Atlantic is about as picture-perfect as it gets.

Austin, Texas

In keeping with the heart-felt theme, there are few better ways to spend a low-key weekend than deep in the heart of Texas. Austin is home to one of the country’s most active music scenes, with live performances peppered throughout the city every night. You and your partner can get the inside scoop on up-and-coming tunes, check out the State Capitol of Texas, and take a stroll down South Congress St., admiring the sunset’s strokes of red and pink.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

There’s no better place to celebrate love than in the City of Brotherly Love itself. Philadelphia is perfect for history buffs, art lovers and foodies (oh, and Eagles fans). The city will for sure be full of post-Super-Bowl-victory vigor in the next few weeks, making February the perfect time to join the celebration. Grab a cheese steak and say “cheese” in Love Park, or take your relationship to new heights from the observation One Liberty Observation Deck. With a near-endless list of romantic activities to choose from, it’s safe to say Philly makes it easy to fall in love.
