We’re only a few days from hitting the ignition on 2019, and it’s not too late to start planning your resolutions for the new year. While it’s worthwhile to focus on big-picture commitments — your career, family, and health — giving your ride some thought can put your other resolutions in the fast lane. So, while you’re busy getting ready for another successful year, we’ve got a few resolutions for the road to give your vehicle its best year yet.
As your commute will tell you, more vehicles are taking to the road than ever. And, as much as Caliber loves cars, it’s a fact that cutting down on how much you drive daily can help stimulate a healthier lifestyle, reduce stress, save a ton of cash on car insurance and help out the environment. So, for 2019, our first resolution is to curb your car-time. Carpool with a friend, Rideshare or even try hoofing it if you’re close by!
Give Vacations the Green Light
It may seem at odds with our previous suggestion, but there’s nothing wrong with some one-on-one time with the open road here and there. The new year marks the opportunity for a fresh start, and a chance to think about how and where you want to travel over the coming months. With a laundry list of responsibilities, you likely can’t just take off and go. But that certainly doesn’t mean you can’t. Start small with a day trip, then set more concrete goals, like visiting a new city or unplugging for a weekend with nature.
Take a Turn for the Best
As a driver, there are few things more frustrating than braking at the last second because another car failed to use their turn signal. By simply toggling a switch, everyone can make the road safer. Make sure you’re signaling before merging, changing lanes, or turning to let drivers know what your intentions are. Flicking on your turn signal takes almost no effort, but it makes a massive difference in your safety and the safety of others.
While we don’t condone speeding, flexing your horsepower here and there is actually good for your engine. That’s right — pushing the gas pedal down for a short spell now and again is actually beneficial for your engine. Rev up for a second or two every once in a while to help prevent an engine head that’s gummed up and covered in carbon deposits. After all, who says resolutions have to be a chore?
Simple and Clean
Keeping a clean car might seem like basic advice, but that coat of dirt carries chemicals that could corrode your exterior over time. Your climate is a big factor when it comes to how often you should wash your vehicle. If you’re in a pollution-heavy area or there’s a lot of sea salt in the air, it’s recommended you scrub your car at least twice a month. For most inland areas, a simple monthly washing will do the trick. Winter also brings added snow, road salt and mud that can accumulate over time, meaning you should up the frequency when the temperatures drop. A routine wash schedule will keep your ride protected and shining like new year-round.
There you have it: our 2019 New Year’s resolutions for the road, and we hope you join us in sticking to them long after the ball drops. New years are a time for new possibilities, and some aren’t always ideal. If the road to your resolutions comes across a few rough patches, know that you can always count on us to restore the rhythm of your life.
Happy New Year from your friends at Caliber Collision!
